Troubleshooting AIX migration ( from 5.3 to 6.1 )

I was migrating my AIX server from 5.3 to 6.1.

I followed all the walk-throughs and usual procedures. I booted my server from a DVD and chosen migration installation. Everything went fine, LED code is displying "000" and my system came up. Yes, I thought my system came up. But after reboot, just before showing the login prompt, my system started to reboot again. Alas!! what is this? Nice. Everything is happening for some good reason.

I booted my machine form DVD again in maintenance mode, checked file system consistancy. Everything is fine here. Ah, then who is the culprit. Let me reboot my server. Oh, again going into loop just before she was expected to show her login prompt. hmm, what to do then? again boot in maintenance mode. Yes, my instinct says the culprit should be hiding in the inittab entries.

I prepared for an encounter with inittab. I made two copies of inittab and cut the original with just three entries "init, brc and cons" which are must for the system to come up and show me the console. And yes!!! the system came up and then I added three more entries and again rebooted the machine. I repeated this till I found the black-sheep. At last the I found the entry "pca" was causing the trouble. And made call with IBM, they confirmed that the entry is not required and is added after migration. And yes, after reboot my system came out happily as before.
